Information about the Newcomb/Nordlie data
The data are from the second year of the Newcomb data as reported by Peter G. Nordlie in his 1958 thesis:
Nordlie, Peter G. A LONGITUDINAL STUDY OF INTERPERSONAL ATTRACTION IN A NATURAL GROUP SETTING. Ph.D.
dissertation, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, USA
It is available from University Microfilms
In the Netherlands the only public copy of this thesis is available in Library of the University of Groningen.
The data come in the form of 15 asymmetric 17 by 17 matrices with 17s on the diagonals.
The data are rank orders where the highest number indicates the greatest degree of liking. It is reversed in
direction from the original and also the number 17 has been arbitrarily added to the diagonal of all the
matrices.
The weeks are in the order they were collected (0 to 15 with week 9 missing as they did not collect data that
week).
The format is (17f3.0) Further information will be added later
